Gambling habits in Canada

A nationwide study on gambling participation is currently underway in Canada. A first in the country, this multidisciplinary research project involving ten or so researchers from three major universities in Alberta is being funded by four Canadian organizations devoted to gambling research, including the Canadian Consortium for Gambling Research, of which Loto-Québec has been a member since 2012.

Basically, the purpose of this study is to provide a detailed picture of gambling involvement and problem gambling in Canada. The findings are expected to help broaden our overall understanding of this practice. The hope is that the findings will also bring forth recommendations on how we can promote low-risk gambling habits and prevent loss of control and gambling problems, as well as help us provide more adequate support to problem gamblers and their loved ones.
